Phosphorous removal from human urine using lateritic soil

نویسندگان

چکیده

Phosphorous (P) in human urine is among the macronutrients municipal wastewater that has exacerbated eutrophication of water bodies. Adsorption P from using cost effective, environmentally friendly, and efficient adsorbents considered as an attractive method can both mitigate problem augment already strained reserves. In present study adsorption capacity structural properties lateritic soil (LS), adsorbent for removal urine, was investigated XRF, SEM, TGA FTIR techniques. Batch experiments were conducted to determine various parameters such sorption rates, concentration, amount adsorbed at equilibrium. The experimental equilibrium data fitted Langmuir, Freundlich Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherms. Also, factors influencing contact time, agitation speed, loading optimized response surface methodology (RSM). Based on D-R model, mean energy 1.313 × 10−2 kJ/mol obtained suggesting occurred through weak forces interaction. LS (qe) pH = 7.5 increased with initial concentration well time. Langmuir maximum found be 15.5 mg/g. RSM demonstrated time 60 min, speed 80 rpm, 0.1 g 25 mL optimum highest P, a desirability 0.919. results presented here show promising inexpensive effective urine.

Field Utilization of Dried Water Hyacinth for Phosphorous Recovery from Source-Separated Human Urine

This research demonstrated the feasibility of converting source-separated human urine into a solid fertilizer by means of continuous absorption and solar thermal evaporation using dried water hyacinth as adsorbent. In a preliminary experiment, the dried petioles of water hyacinth (DWH) absorbed urine in a mean rate of 18.78 ml·g within 7 d, retrieving about 3.46% urine dissolved solids (UDS). I...

Scope of BOD, Nitrogen and Phosphorous Removal through Plant-Soil Interaction in the Wetland

Constructed and natural wetlands are being used extensively to treat different types of wastewater including the domestic one. Considerable removal efficiency has been achieved for a variety of pollutants like BOD, nitrogen and phosphorous in the wetlands. Wetland treatment appears to be the best choice for treatment or pre-treatment of wastewater because of the low maintenance cost and simplic...

Removal of Direct Red 81 from Aqueous Solution Using an Acidic Soil Containing Iron (Case Study of Lahijan Soil)

Direct Red 81, a dye widely used in textile industries, is frequently detected dye in water resources. High costs, the formation of hazardous byproducts, and high energy costs restrict the use of some removal methods. Therefore, the main objectives of this research are the feasibility of using soil containing iron as a low cost adsorbent to remove (Direct Red 81) from aqueo...

Investigation of formaldehyde removal from synthetic contaminated air by using human hair

Background: Human hair can be used as an inexpensive and accessible adsorbent to remove a variety of pollutants from air. Although several studies have been done on removal of formaldehyde from wastewater by human hair, to date no study has investigated using hair to remove formaldehyde from air. Therefore, the aim of this study was to remove formaldehyde from synthetic contaminated a...

Extraction of Sulfathiazole from Urine Using Biosynthesized Magnetic Nanoparticles

The application of Pd/Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) for the adsorption of sulfathiazole from urine samples prior to high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection was studied. Pd/Fe3O4 NPs were synthesized using plant extract. Possible impact parameters in the extraction process such as the magnetic adsorbents amount, extraction time, sample pH and desorption conditions were investiga...
